You’ve ordered your new trailers. What happens next?

Placing the order is the exciting part. Waiting for the trailers to arrive can feel considerably longer.

Once a new commercial trailer order is confirmed, the customer has their own planning to do. Existing equipment might be leaving the fleet, new work could be starting or drivers and operations may need to be prepared for the arrival of new trailers.

That makes one question particularly important.

When will they be ready?

Build times, delivery schedules and communication during production were all raised by our sales team as things customers regularly want to know more about.

Before the trailer enters production

The first priority is getting the trailer specification agreed.

There may be opportunities to make changes during the earlier stages of an order, which is why amendment deadlines are important. Once production reaches a certain point, changes can become more difficult to accommodate.

Having those conversations early helps everyone.

Customers know what they’re getting, the specification is clear and the trailer can progress through production as planned.

How long does it take to build a commercial trailer?

There isn’t one answer that applies to every order.

Commercial trailer lead times can depend on the type of trailer, the specification and the production schedule at the time of ordering.

For fleet operators, the important thing is to discuss required delivery dates as early as possible.

If trailers are needed for a particular contract, fleet replacement programme or operational requirement, knowing the expected delivery schedule makes planning much easier.
